  • He had one taken away in the first half, went close again in the first half soon after, then finally gets one as they start the second half. Olakau’atu has been an absolute menace on the edge and puts Manly right back in this one. It’s 12-6.

And some team news for Penrith as Tevita Pangai Jnr prepares to make his Panthers debut in our second match.

Manly have it all to do over the next 40 minutes. It won’t doom their season if they lose but it might doom their top four hopes. Which mean it might doom their season after all. Stick with me here folks.

Huge defensive set there from the Raiders to ensure they end the half with a clean sheet. They’ve been good here against Manly and are playing like a team with that little bit extra on the line. Smith-Shields and Simonsson with the tries, Manly need to find a way without You Know Who.

TRY to Canberra. A Manly mistake and the Raiders are over again, it’s good enough for a 12-0 lead with five minutes until halftime. This would be a really big result for Canberra tonight, could clinch their spot in the eight. Just need to keep it going but yet again, Manly just look a different outfit without Tommy Turbo.

Cherry-Evans had to race off his line to halt the shift to the left and referee Adam Gee had the good sense to give them a penalty instead of another set. It was fairly blatant but the Raiders want the two points and Sam Williams does the honours. It’s 6-0 to the Green Machine.

Just lacking a few ideas in attack at times but now the Raiders return the favour. That’s the 10th error of the match and we are only 20 minutes down. Lift, lads. Canberra up 4-0.

Error after error after error from the Raiders and they couldn’t hold out forever. DCE carries it to the line, then finds Haumole Olakau’atu who smashes his way over. And it’s NO TRY for an obstruction. That is going to sting, it remains 4-0 to Canberra.

The conversion sailed wide and then Josh Hodgson boots it out on the full. Coach killing stuff there. Now he gives away another six. But Lachlan Croker’s little stab kick in behind is miles too long and they turn it over.

And it’s a slick one as well. Brilliant little offload in no room at all from Matt Timoko and Smith-Shields dives over in the corner. Canberra starting to get on top physically here now as well and they lead 4-0, kick to come from the corner. But once again, the six-again rules comes into play. The Raiders were offside as Manly came off their line, Sea Eagles get a fresh set but have it stolen one-on-one straight away. So instead of a penalty to get off their line, they concede the try. Doesn’t make much sense.

Canberra fumble a kick but find a way to get out of their danger zone. Now Manly get shoved into touch as they try to find a way through this Raiders line. Good battle here in the first 10 minutes and as Harley Smith-Shields for Canberra gets attention to a nasty cut. A few running repairs and he’s still in the game.
