Furious mum stranded in Majorca after daughter 13 forced to isolate for 21 DAYS in bonkers new Covid rule

A FURIOUS mum has been left stranded in Majorca after her 13-year-old daughter was ordered to isolate for 21 days in a bizarre new Covid rule.

April Allinson's holiday in Port d'Alcudia with her daughter, Ellie, and her pal Lilly Cuthbert turned into a living nightmare after the 30-year-old mum picked up the virus.

After 10 days of isolation in their hotel room following April's positive test, the trio were set to be freed on Friday and fly home to the UK on Saturday.

But Spanish cops have now said the two 13-year-old girls must stay put for another 10 days, bringing the total isolation period in the tiny hotel room to 21 days.

April, from Stockton-On-Tees, said the authorities have ruled the two young girls could have caught Covid while in isolation with April and therefore must remain on the island.

April has already forked out more than £1,700 for the hotel - and she hasn't even started to add up the hit to earnings from her aesthetics business back home.

And the family must find another £766 if they have to remain in isolation even longer.

"I don’t understand what’s going on and the rules seem to change by the minute," April told The Sun.

"This isn’t what we were told and neither child has ever tested positive throughout. I don’t understand the reasoning at all."

She added: "The Spanish authorities were saying they could still have the virus, but they would have to stay here on their own. Their quarantine would only start when I leave here.

"I am so worried we are not going to get home. They are trying to separate me and my children but that isn’t going to happen.

"The kids are fine but they are bored being stuck in that room.

"I am not complaining about having to isolate after I tested positive, that was fine.

"They just want to go home. One of the girls is not mine and the other girl’s mum is just worried sick about her.

"We feel like there’s nothing we can do and feel stuck.

The British embassy have not yet replied to April but local MP Alex Cunningham called the situation "bizarre".

'BONKERS'

Grandad Derek Bean said he's worried the girls might not be back in the UK for a "very long time".

"It’s bonkers - the kids are testing negative the whole time," he told The Sun.

"If the girls were left there on their own how on earth would they get back to the UK and who would look after them?

"I am worried they might not come back for a very long time."

Although mainland Spain remains on the UK's amber list, the Balearic islands are on the green list, meaning sun-starved Brits can jet off to Ibiza, Majorca and Menorca.

But Spain has been battling a rise of variants with the Beta strain making up 14.5 per cent of the Covid cases in the past month.

According to recent figures, the 14-day case rate per 100,000 is 740 across the Balearic region as a whole.

Concerns have grown after Ibiza and Majorca reintroduced strict public health measures amid the rapid rise in Covid cases.

And there are fears the islands could be slapped on the amber plus list.

But the Department for Transport told the travel industry tourists returning from Spain won't be slapped with new restrictions imminently, with the next update in August, according to the Telegraph.

The Sun has contacted the UK's FCDO and the Health Department of the Balearic Islands for comment.
